The Green Rural Revival Program of Zhejiang Province won a Champions of the Earth Award 2018, the highest environmental honor by the UN Environment Programme, at the UN headquarters in New York on the morning of September 27, Beijing time. The UN described it as an “exceptionally successful eco-restoration program.”

The United Nations praised the "transformative power of bringing environmental protection and economic development together."By the end of last year, 27,000 villages in Zhejiang had completed village renovation. The huge effects of the "Green Rural Revival Program" can be seen everywhere in rural Zhejiang. Last year, the province received 320 million tourists in rural areas, with a total tourism revenue of 30.07 billion yuan.

At the beginning of this year, Zhejiang proposed the "Green Rural Revival Program" to create over one thousand rural revitalization villages and over ten thousand beautiful rural scenic spots villages, promoting the further development of urban-rural integration and laying a solid foundation for rural revitalization.

“In the rural areas of Zhejiang, I have seen the future of China and even the world,” said Solheim, the UN Under-Secretary-General and the Executive Director of the UNEP, who had once visited Zhejiang himself. The "Green Rural Revival Program" has better handled the relationship between environmental governance and development, government guidance and public participation, and is worth learning from and sharing around the world.
