In the first eight months, the growth of foreign trade in Zhejiang Province ranked first in the coastal provinces and cities.

According to statistics, in the first eight months of this year, the total import and export value in Zhejiang Province reached 1.84 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%, higher than the national average increase of 9.1%. Strikingly, the export value reached 1.36 trillion yuan, representing an increase of 6.9% year-on-year; the import value hit 476.45 billion yuan, representing an increase of 21.2% year-on-year.

 

“Affected by factors like high domestic demand, lower tariffs, and enterprises' struggling efforts to import and export in response to the trade frictions, the import value and export value hit record highs in this province in August, enabling the import and export values as well as the growth rate of exports and imports to ranks first among the major foreign trade provinces and cities in the coastal areas in the first eight months”, the statistics experts from Hangzhou Customs told reporters.

 

It is said that since May this year, the monthly export scale has been at a high level in this province. Since June, the export growth rate began to increase month by month. In August, the export value exceeded 190 billion yuan, hitting a record high for the monthly export value.

 

From the perspective of the market, trade between this province and the countries along the “Belt and Road” has been scaling up. In the first eight months, the total trade value between this province and countries along the “Belt and Road” was 585.37 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.4%, accounting for 31.8% of the total import and export value in the whole province and 11.0% of the total trade value between the whole country and countries along the “Belt and Road”. It is notable that the export and import values ​​increased by 7.8% and 30.7% year-on-year respectively, with the growth rate higher than the national overall level. At the same time, the import and export of the province to the EU, the United States and other markets also rose steadily, increasing by 6.8% and 8.1% respectively.

 

From the perspective of the prefecture cities, in the first eight months, the import and export of Ningbo, Hangzhou and Jinhua in the eleven prefecture cities ranked the top three, representing a rise of 13.3%, 2.3% and 9.8% year-on-year respectively, and accounting for 30.3%, 18.4%, and 13.4% of the total import and export in this province respectively. The export in Jinhua and Taizhou grew at a faster rate, with an increase of 10.1% and 9.7% year-on-year respectively; the import in Zhoushan and Wenzhou grew rapidly, with an increase of 63.2% and 46.4% year-on-year respectively.

 

It is worth mentioning that recently, the third batch of nationwide cross-border e-commerce comprehensive experimental zones were officially established, and as the country’s first cross-border e-commerce pilot zone, Zhejiang has witnessed a rapid growth trend in the cross-border e-commerce as a new foreign trade mode this year. From January to August, the import value related to the cross-border e-commerce hit 14.68 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 77.8%.
