On the 23rd, Governor Yuan Jiajun met with Prime Minister O’Neill of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and his delegation in Hangzhou.
Yuan Jiajun welcomed O'Neill and introduced the economic and social development of Zhejiang. He said that President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang recently held cordial, friendly, and fruitful talks with His Excellency the Prime Minister to push bilateral relations to a new level. As a developed province in eastern China and a large province opening to the outside, Zhejiang will resolutely implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, implement in depth the “One Belt and One Road” Initiative, and strengthen substantial cooperation with PNG in the fields of economy, trade, industry, tourism, culture, and infrastructure, so as to better achieve complementary advantages, mutual benefits, and win-win results. We are willing to share the successful experience of the G20 Hangzhou Summit with the PNG side and take the APEC leaders' informal meeting to be held in Brazil this year as an important timeline, to accelerate the promotion of major cooperative programs between the two sides and to make joint efforts for the development of China-Pakistan new relations.
O'Neill spoke highly of the achievements of the reform and opening up in Zhejiang and expressed his willingness to further expand the cooperation with Zhejiang under the framework of the “One Belt and One Road” and to bring tangible benefits to the people of the two countries.
The senior officials of PNG who accompanied O'Neill, and Xue Bing, the Chinese ambassador to PNG, were present at the meeting.
