First List of National Traditional Handicrafts to Be Revitalized Issued; 22 Items of Zhejiang Included

Recently, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have jointly issued the first list of national traditional handicrafts to be revitalized, covering 383 items in 14 categories. Zhejiang Province has 22 items included, coming out at the top among the provinces.

The items of Zhejiang Province on the list cover 8 categories, including crafts of spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering, carving and molding, metal processing, pottery-making, making of traditional Chinese stationery (brushes, ink, paper and inkstones), lacquering, printing and picture-mounting, and instrument making, which are from nine cities of the province.

Under the category of spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering are the brocading craft of Hangzhou silk, the craft of Hang-luo silk, and the craft of Shuanglin silk (ling and juan) in Huzhou. Under carving and sculpturing are the stone carving of Qingtian, the wood carving of Dongyang, the boxwood carving of Yueqing, and the craft of Ou-style relief carving. Under metal processing goes Hangzhou copper sculpture. Under pottery-making are Longquan celadon and Yue-kiln celadon. Under traditional Chinese stationery are Fuyang bamboo paper and Longyou bark paper. Under lacquering goes the craft of gold foil painted lacquering of Ningbo. Under printing and picture mounting goes woodblock printing of Xiacheng Hangzhou. Under instrument-making exist the forging of Longquan swords and the making of Wangxingji fans.

The first list of national traditional handicrafts to be revitalized is made according to the Plan of Revitalizing Traditional Chinese Handicrafts, approved by the Ministry of Finance, and issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology based on the recommendations of local governments.
According to the demands of the Plan of Revitalizing Traditional Chinese Handicrafts, the next step to go is to carry out the Opinions on Implementing the Plan of Revitalizing Traditional Chinese Handicrafts issued jointly by the Provincial Committee of Economy and Information Technology and the Provincial Department of Finance, to take advantage of this program and step up the revitalization of the traditional handicrafts of Zhejiang.
