Zhejiang Sees 10% Growth in Foreign Trade in Four Months

As the journalist learned from Hangzhou Customs on 15th May, from January to April, the total import and export value of Zhejiang Province reached 838.98 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 10.1%, of which the export value was 613.14 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 8.1%, and the import value was 225.84 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 15.8%.
In the past four months, the foreign trade of our province has seen a fast growth. The growth of import and export and that of export ranked the second and the third respectively among the major coastal provinces, and the growth of import ranked the first. The export value accounted for 12.5% of that of the whole nation, increasing 0.4% on a year-on-year basis, said an official from Hangzhou Customs.
The import of bulk commodities saw a rise in both quantity and value. From January to April, our import of 20 bulk commodities (including the primary shape plastic and iron ores) amounted to 124.39 billion yuan, increasing 18.4% on a year-on-year basis, accounting for 55.1% of the total import value of the province. The import of the first 20 bulk commodities saw an average increase of 11.5% in quantity, and a rise of 6.2% in price. In the same period, the import of electromechanical products and high-tech products kept a fast growth, amounting to 39.92 billion yuan and 24 billion yuan respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 29.1% and 23.3%, accounting for 17.7% and 10.6% of the total import value.
Private enterprises have always been the major force in the foreign trade of our province. From January to April, the total import and export value of the private enterprises reached 595.73 billion yuan, seeing a year-on-year growth of 13.4%, which comprised 71% of the total import and export value of the whole province, with a year-on-year growth of 2.1%. The export value amounted to 474.33 billion yuan, growing 11.2% on a year-on-year basis, contributing 77.4% to the total export value of the whole province, growing 2.1% on a year-on-year basis. The import value amounted to 121.4 billion yuan, growing 23.3% on a year-on-year basis, contributing 53.8% to the total import value of the whole province, growing 3.3% on a year-on-year basis.
Among the 11 prefecture-level cities in the province, from January to April, Ningbo, Hangzhou and Jinhua remained top three in import and export scales, increasing 11.4%, 1.6% and 11.6% respectively. Ningbo and Jinhua ranked first and second in their contribution to the export growth of the whole province; Ningbo and Zhoushan ranked first and second in their contribution to the import growth of the whole province; and Hangzhou and Ningbo contributed equally to the import and export growth of cross-border e-commerce.
