Zhejiang CPI Rises 2.2% Year-on-Year in November

On the 9th December, the reporter learned from the Zhejiang Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics that in November 2018, the consumer price of Zhejiang residents rose by 2.2% year-on-year and down 0.7% from the previous month.
On a year-on-year basis, prices increased for most foods in November. The prices of food, tobacco and alcohol in November rose by 3.9% year-on-year. While the prices of fresh vegetables decreased by 1.4%, the prices of fresh melons, eggs, poultry, meat (pork), aquatic products and milk all increased. The largest increase year-on-year was fresh fruits, up 13.7%. Egg prices rose 9.2%; pork prices rose 6.8%. In November, the prices of food and beverages increased by 5.0% in restaurants.
In addition to food, the prices of the other seven categories in November rose. Among them, health care, education culture and entertainment, daily necessities and services, transportation and communications, other supplies and services, housing and clothing prices rose by 3.6%, 2.6%, 1.9%, 1.3%, 1.1%, 1.1% and 0.4%, respectively.
Compared with the last month, people’s food basket was lighter in November. The prices of food, tobacco and alcohol fell by 1.6% from the previous month. Despite the slight increase in the prices of fresh melons, aquatic products, milk and poultry, the price of fresh vegetables dropped significantly by 17.6%, and pork price fell by 4.1%. Of the prices of the other seven categories, 2 rose and 5 fell.
Consumer prices in November fell by 0.7% from the previous month. The main reasons were as follows: the price of fresh vegetables dropped by 17.6%, which led to a month-on-month decline; pork prices fell by 4.1%; the prices of gasoline, diesel and LPG decreased by 5.2%, 5.7% and 2.5% respectively; travel prices fell by 4.5%.
