The reporter learned from the Zhejiang Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics that in October 2018, Zhejiang consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.8% year-on-year, a drop of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month. It rose 0.3 percent month-on-month, down 0.6 percentage points.

In terms of categories, in October, some food prices in Zhejiang fell, and the price of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 0.4% from the previous month, down 1.6 percentage points. Among them, the price of fresh vegetables decreased by 5.1% from the previous month; the price of aquatic products decreased by 2.1%; the price of eggs decreased by 1.4%. According to the analysis of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce, with the further increase of the local and surrounding autumn vegetables, the market supply is sufficient, and the price of vegetables continues to decline. It is expected that the price of vegetables will continue to maintain a seasonal downward trend.

However, due to the persistence of the swine fever and the increase in production and transportation costs, the prices of fresh foods, mainly pork and fresh fruits, increased significantly, with the price of fresh fruits rising by 7.7% and the price of pork by 3.9%. It is reported that due to the impact of African swine fever, the government is vigorously promoting a new meat supply system that shifts from “transporting swine” to “transporting meat”. At present, Zhejiang Province has cooperated with Shandong, Henan and other provinces to link swine production directly with marketing. Later, the supply of pork will be relatively sufficient, and the supply of meat products will be expected to improve.

In October, of the other seven categories, 6 rose and 1 fell in price. The prices of clothing, education, culture and entertainment, other supplies and services, health care, household goods and services, and transportation and communications rose by 1.1%, 0.6%, 0.5%, 0.3%, 0.2%, and 0.1%, respectively from the previous month; and the residential price fell by 0.1%.
