Zhejiang Created Over 1.27 Million New Jobs in Urban Areas in 2017

On January 17, reporters learned from the provincial videophone conference on human resources and social security that Zhejiang created 1.272 million new jobs in urban areas in 2017. By the end of last year, the registered urban unemployment rate was 2.73 percent, a further decline compared with the previous year. Meanwhile, the coverage of basic medical insurance for local registered permanent resident in Zhejiang was over 98%.

Last year, Zhejiang released a series of policies to promote entrepreneurship, guide and encourage college graduates to work at the grass-roots level. The policy system in the province has been much improved, and employment situation analysis, enterprise employment monitoring, and early warning of unemployment have been strengthened. In 2017, the province helped 451,000 unemployed people got reemployed, of which 129,000 people experienced employment difficulty.  By vigorously promoting rural e-commerce entrepreneurship, it trained 165,000 rural online retailers and supported more than 30,000 people to start their businesses. A total of 2.2 billion yuan was issued for entrepreneurship guarantee in the province, up by 95 percent from the previous year. 26 companies were recognized as the third batch of provincial-level entrepreneurial incubation demonstration bases and 11 as the first batch of provincial-level entrepreneurial training demonstration bases. Efforts were also strengthened to support entrepreneurship and employment among disabled people. 34 entrepreneurship bases were established for disabled people in the province, and e-commerce training was offered to more than 10,000 people with disabilities, which helped 14,000 disable people to achieve employment and entrepreneurship. With the implementation of the entrepreneurship and innovation policy for researchers working in public institutions, 105 people from all over the province have left their posts and started their own businesses. In addition, the employment and entrepreneurship rate of college graduates has increased steadily.
