“1, 000 potential geological hazards will be basically eliminated while 1, 500 new and renovated shelters will be established”, which was one of the practical tasks defined in the 10 areas of public wellbeing by the provincial government in 2017. As a year has passed, is it done?
Recently, reporters learned from Zhejiang Provincial Department of Land and Resources that there was no casualty from the geological disasters in the province in 2017. Last year, with the implementation of the “risk elimination and safe living” campaign, a three-year action plan on the comprehensive management of potential geological disasters, 2,019 hidden geological hazards were eliminated and 1,864 comprehensive control projects were completed. And the reduced number of victims reached 86,400, of whom 61,900 people were protected through relocation and 24,500 were saved through control projects. In addition, 1, 550 new and renovated shelters were established in the province.
According to statistics, in early 2017 there were more than 5000 potential geological hazards threatening the life and property security of 140,000 people across the province, of which 967 were major ones endangering directly at least 30 people. Therefore, in order to protect people's lives and property, that is how the three-year action plan on the comprehensive management of potential geological disasters was launched.
