On September 13, Zhejiang Provincial Water Control Office (River Chief Office) released a report on the progress of the provincial key tasks and projects engaging in water control and inferior Class V water elimination. From January to August this year, the water environment was further improved, with the result that the number of inferior Class V water cross-sections at county-level and above has been reduced from 58 to 19, and the task of eliminating polluted cross-sections has been completed more than two thirds. 15,239 “registered” inferior Class V small and micro water bodies were removed from this year’s control list after inspection.
The water quality of the provincial big rivers maintained good from January to August. Among six big provincial long river water systems, the overall water quality of Qiantang River, Ou River, Caoe River, Zhaoxi River and Feiyun River is excellent except the slightly polluted Beijing-Hangzhou Canal.
Since June, the province has been making an acceptance inspection of the improvement of inferior Class V small and micro water bodies according to the Management Procedures for Acceptance Inspection of Inferior Class V Water Elimination in Zhejaing. Till now, 15,239 such small and micro water bodies have successfully passed the inspection. 7 multi-district cities including Huzhou, Shaoxing, Jinhua, Quzhou, Zhoushan, Taizhou and Lishui have also succeeded in eliminating all the “registered” inferior class V small and micro water bodies in their respective regions.
