The work report on Zhejiang air pollution prevention and control was reviewed in groups in the 44th Session of the 12th Standing Committee of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress. It was briefed that 8095 environment offenses in Zhejiang have been addressed from January to August, inflicting a total fine of 347 million Yuan and over 1150 people under administrative and criminal detention, and making Zhejiang at top of the list in law enforcement execution.
The Standing Committee of Zhejiang People's Congress followed the work of air pollution prevention and control in Zhejiang during the second half of 2017, the result of which showed that the average PM density in 11 cities with subordinate districts had dropped by 10.9% year on year, and the average percentage of days with good air quality had stood tied year on year. An officer from Environment and Resource Protection Committee of Zhejiang People's Congress told the journalist that, according to the results, the air quality in most areas had shown obvious improvement.
Air pollution prevention and control, and energy and industry structure adjustment are the cardiotonic. Zhejiang has tightened up the total coal consumption and speeded up the elimination of small coal-fired boilers. Following last year, the province has eliminated 5155 more boilers from January to August, a total of 42,000 boilers being phased out, leaving around 500 to be eliminated before the end of the year. At the same time, Zhejiang accelerates the ruling out of outdated production capacity and overcapacity, having closed in total over 30,000 companies or small workshops in 6 highly polluting sectors like electroplating, papermaking, printing, dyeing, and so on, and having improved and upgraded more than 9,000 companies or small workshops.
