China Silk Museum


    Located at the bank of the famous beauty spot West Lake, the museum has a reputation of the first nationwide silk professional museum, the largest silk museum in the world. Officially opened on February 26th, 1992, there are five basic exhibition portions. The Preface Hall summarizes the history of silk and the Silk Road, narrates historically the origin of silk in China, and the prevalence in the world. The Historic Culture Relics Hall displays great scenes of relics and photographs of silk past dynasties, representing the centuries-old Chinese silk culture in the past 5,000 years and lofty industrial technology. The Silk Hall unmasks the mystery of mulberry planting and filature. The Dyeing and Twining Hall represents multi-nationality producing techniques in different age through buildings of typical regional and ethical characteristics. And finally the Hall of Modern Times Achievements symbolizes an epitome of the PRC's silk industry, revealing the brilliant success in silk producing, silk scientific researches and silk trade since 1949.Also, there is a flexible hall holding temporary exhibitions inside the museum.

    Provided with a convincing veteran studying team, the museum has established China Ancient Textile Judgment and Protection Center. Surrounded with elegant natural atmosphere, the museum is known for its gentle architecture style. The bridges, streams and mulberry garden attract every tourist. The shopping center, stores and tearooms make the museum a place for good relaxation and entertainment.
